On Tuesday afternoon we went over to visit the Yash Raj Studios to meet Shantanu a sound engineer who has recently worked with the Soundpad project organised by the British Council in India and the UK.
Yash Raj Studios has for the last three decades been involved with a number of highly successful Bollywood films. There are large TV and Film studios there as well as sound recording and editing suites to die for!
Our visit focussed on the recording studios. Unfortunately there were no Bollywood shoots going on that day and so we just got a glimpse of some glamorous sets being built. The sound studios are amazingly well equipped – and if you want to hire them complete with sound engineer you pay only £30 per hour!
We were not allowed to take pictures for publication – but you can see the studios on their website here.
On Tuesday night we had some samosas and went to a ‘garage bar’ called Totos in Mumbai. I thought that this would mean that we would be hearing some Garage Music but actually the bar is decorated like a garage with a large car hovering over the bar area and staff dressed as mechanics!
